The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has accused Nigerian media of excluding Islamic scholars and Muslim voices from discussions on alleged Christian genocide in the country.

MURIC Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, stated that both print and electronic media have given Christian clerics unlimited opportunities to make allegations, while Muslims are not invited to respond.

Akintola claimed that Muslims are being framed and gagged by the press, and are voiceless, oppressed, and repressed.

He warned that the press has drifted away from balance, fairness, and professionalism, and is programming Nigerians to hate Muslims.

MURIC cited an example of Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo’s interview on News Central TV, where no Muslim scholar was invited to respond to allegations.

The group accused media houses of neglecting their responsibility to promote balance and reduce tensions.

The controversy follows the US designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over religious freedom violations, intensifying debate on attacks on Christians and potential genocide.
