Somalia’s Defence Minister, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, has rejected US President Donald Trump’s latest insults, stating that Somalis will not accept being demeaned.
Trump had described Somalis as “garbage” and claimed they are “good at going after ships,” referring to piracy off the Somali coast.
Fiqi expressed gratitude for US military support in fighting al Qaeda-linked militants but emphasized that Somalis are known for their hard work and resilience.
Trump’s comments, made during a Pennsylvania rally, denounced migration from “Third World” countries, calling Somalia a “disaster” and its people “filthy, dirty, disgusting, and ridden with crime”.
The Somali government rejects these characterizations, highlighting the nation’s strength and ability to overcome hardships.
