A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of former Labour Minister Chris Ngige at the Kuje Correctional Centre, pending the hearing of his bail application.
Ngige, who served as Minister of Labour and Productivity under former President Muhammadu Buhari, was arraigned on an eight-count corruption charge by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The charges include conferring unfair advantage on associates in the award of contracts and corruptly accepting gifts worth millions of naira through his organizations between 2015 and 2023. Ngige pleaded not guilty to the charges, and his lead counsel, Patrick Ikweato (SAN), applied for bail, citing health grounds.
However, the EFCC’s counsel, Sylvanus Tahir (SAN), opposed the application, claiming Ngige was a flight risk.
Justice Mariam Hassan adjourned the hearing of the bail application to Monday, December 15, 2025.
