The Nigerian Senate has rejected a motion to investigate alleged administrative lapses in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), citing procedural defects.
The motion, sponsored by Senator Ireti Kingibe, sought to address issues including land grabbing, demolitions, salaries, sewage disposal, and waste management.
Senator Kingibe argued that despite previous Senate interventions, these problems persist, including illegal revocations and forced evictions on green areas designated for infrastructure and environmental buffers.
However, Senate President Godswill Akpabio ruled the motion lacked focus, combining unrelated issues, and didn’t meet urgency requirements.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s transformation efforts, while Senator Opeyemi Bamidele advised Kingibe to re-present the motion as a substantive one, focusing on a single issue like waste management. Kingibe was allowed to withdraw.
