The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have lost their first Match of the 2023 All Africa Games to Uganda at their Opening Group B Match.

The Eagles lost 2-1 to the Ugandans at the University of Ghana Sport Stadium, Legon in Ghana. The 2019 Silver Medallist conceded the first goal in the 33rd minute through Kiza Usama. The Flying Eagles scored an equalizer in the 34th minute by Sadiq Isiyaka.

The resumption of the second half saw both teams creating opportunities to double their lead until Uganda’s Ivan Irinimbabazi scored the winning goal in the 81st minute. The coach of the Flying Eagles, Ladan Bosso, said the team would correct the mistakes before their next matches. Nigeria’s next match will be on Monday versus Senegal who defeated Sudan in the other group game.

Nigeria claimed the Silver Medallist in Morocco in 2019 after losing narrowly to Burkina Faso in the Final. The other matches to be played on Friday will see the host nation, Ghana lock horns against Congo while Gambia slug it out against Benin Republic.
