The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, 2025, as public holidays to mark the Christmas and Boxing Day celebrations.
Additionally, Thursday, January 1, 2026, has been declared a public holiday for the New Year celebration.
The announcement was made on Monday in a statement from the Ministry of Interior on behalf of the Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
In the statement, the minister encouraged Nigerians to use the festive season to reflect on the virtues of love, peace, humility, and sacrifice that are associated with the birth of Jesus Christ.
He called on all citizens, regardless of their faith, to pray for the peace, security, and continued development of the nation.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo also urged everyone to remain law-abiding and security-conscious during the celebrations and wished all Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
