Terrorists have killed Ibrahim Dalhatu Tafoki, an officer with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in an attack that casts serious doubt on the fragile peace process in Katsina State.
The killing occurred on Tuesday evening when Tafoki was ambushed while riding his motorcycle along the Funtua–Tafoki road in the Faskari Local Government Area.
The assailants killed him and stole his motorcycle.
The victim was the younger brother of Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki, a member of the House of Representatives, and the son of the area’s traditional leader, making the attack particularly significant.
This incident is especially alarming because it happened in a region where government-backed mediators have been actively engaging in dialogue with armed bandit groups to restore stability.
Conflict monitors have noted that the killing highlights the weakness of the current peace initiatives in Faskari, an area that has long been an epicenter of banditry and violence in Nigeria’s North-West.
As of Wednesday, neither the Katsina State Government nor security agencies had released an official statement regarding the attack.
