The Federal Government of Nigeria has formally withdrawn a criminal defamation case against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, which was initiated after she publicly accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello of plotting to eliminate her.

Court documents show that a notice of discontinuance was filed on December 12, 2025, by the Attorney General’s office, bringing an end to the criminal proceedings.

This development follows a recent public announcement by Akpabio, who, after being moved by a cleric’s sermon, directed his legal team to withdraw all defamation cases he had instituted against various individuals.

The senator had been arraigned on charges of criminal defamation and cyberbullying for the allegations she made on television, even after she claimed her own petition to the Inspector General of Police about threats to her life was ignored.

This case is one of two criminal actions taken against her, with the second one scheduled for a hearing on Monday and potentially facing a similar withdrawal.
