There was a heavy security presence in Ijebu-Ode today as the Fusengbuwa ruling house began its formal nomination process to select the next Awujale of Ijebuland.
The meeting comes after the Ijebu-Ode Local Government authorized the family to conclude the exercise within 14 days, following the passing of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona in July 2025.
The process, however, is surrounded by controversy. Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, also known as KWAM 1, has petitioned Governor Dapo Abiodun, alleging that the ruling house is attempting to unlawfully exclude him from the process.
Though he is from the Fidipote ruling house, Ayinde has challenged the Fusengbuwa house’s plan to use a screening committee and delegates for the nomination, arguing it contravenes state law.
His supporters were reportedly denied entry to the venue today for not having the required pass.
This follows a lawsuit he filed to stop the process, which he later withdrew after the court denied his request for an injunction.
