Following the tragic death of her 21-month-old son, author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has accused Lagos-based Euracare Hospital of “criminal negligence” and initiated legal action.

The author alleges that a series of professional failures during a medical procedure led to her son’s death on January 7.

In response, former Nigerian Medical Association President, Professor Francis Faduyile, has cautioned against a “media trial,” urging the public to follow established processes for investigating such claims.

However, Faduyile highlighted a critical issue: the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), the primary body responsible for such investigations, has not been constituted by the government for over a year, which may explain why people turn to the media.

He strongly called on the government to establish the council immediately.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government has launched its own investigation through its health facility monitoring agency, which has already visited the hospital to begin a comprehensive review of the incident.
