Tunisian journalist Chatha Belhaj Mubarak has been released from prison after an appeal court reduced her five-year sentence to two.
Jailed since 2023 in the high-profile “Instalingo” conspiracy case, she became eligible for immediate release due to the time already served.
Belhaj Mubarak, along with other politicians and media figures, was convicted on charges of conspiracy and financial crimes, all of which she denied.
Her brother confirmed her release and stated that her health had severely deteriorated in prison, where she suffered significant hearing loss and was diagnosed with cancer.
This case is one of several controversial conspiracy prosecutions in Tunisia that have targeted opposition leaders, journalists, and activists, drawing criticism from rights groups who claim they are politically motivated.
