The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the official Team of the Tournament for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco, following Senegal’s dramatic 1–0 extra-time victory over hosts Morocco in the final on January 18.

The Best XI, released on Wednesday, showcases the most outstanding performers of the competition, with champions Senegal and runners-up Morocco dominating the selection, alongside strong representation from Nigeria, who finished third.

According to CAF, the team was selected by the CAF Technical Study Group (TSG) after an extensive technical evaluation process that assessed players based on consistency, influence and overall performance throughout the tournament. The analysis combined live data, multi-angle video footage, remote monitoring and on-site assessments to ensure an objective and comprehensive review.

Senegal’s triumph is reflected in the inclusion of four players, led by forward Sadio Mané, who was named Player of the Tournament for his leadership and decisive contributions. He is joined in the Best XI by defender Moussa Niakhaté and midfielders Idrissa Gueye and Pape Gueye, the latter of whom scored the winning goal in the final.

Morocco also placed four players in the lineup, including goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, who conceded just two goals in seven matches. He is joined by Achraf Hakimi, Noussair Mazraoui and Brahim Díaz, the tournament’s leading goalscorer, underlining the hosts’ strong run to the final.

Nigeria, who claimed the bronze medal, contributed three players to the team. Defender Calvin Bassey, winger Ademola Lookman and striker Victor Osimhen were all recognised for their key roles in the Super Eagles’ impressive campaign.

CAF said the selection highlights the depth of quality displayed at AFCON 2025 and reflects the technical excellence and competitiveness that defined the tournament.
