The Federal Government has hailed Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele following the record-breaking box office success of her latest movie, Behind the Scenes.
In a statement shared on its X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) described Akindele’s achievement as a significant boost to Nigeria’s creative industry and a reflection of the growing global appeal of Nigerian storytelling.
According to the agency, Behind the Scenes has surpassed ₦2.1 billion at the Nigerian box office, becoming the first Nollywood film to cross the ₦2 billion mark. The film also recorded strong international returns, earning over $111,256 in Canada and $190,249 across North America.
“From Lagos to Toronto, and from cinemas in Abuja to theatres overseas, this movie captured widespread attention,” the NOA stated.

The agency further noted that the feat cements Akindele’s status as the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three consecutive years, describing it as a remarkable milestone for both the actress and the Nigerian film industry.
The NOA said the success of Behind the Scenes underscores Nollywood’s expanding reach and reinforces its growing influence on the global stage, calling the achievement a proud moment for Nigeria’s cultural and creative sectors.
The government’s commendation follows widespread acclaim for the 2025 release, which has dominated local cinemas while strengthening Nollywood’s international footprint.
It was reported earlier on January 12 that Akindele made African cinema history after Behind the Scenes crossed the ₦2 billion mark, setting a new benchmark for Nollywood box office performance.
