The recent attack on communities in Kwara state, Nigeria, was perpetrated by Islamic fundamentalists, according to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

At least 75 residents were killed, and several houses were set ablaze in the Nuku and Woro communities in the Kaiama LGA on Tuesday.

The victims, moderate Muslims, refused to surrender to extremists preaching a strange doctrine, Abdulrazaq said.

Addressing religious and security leaders, Abdulrazaq condemned the massacre, stating it was different from previous kidnappings for ransom.

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the deployment of an army battalion to spearhead “Operation Savannah Shield” to protect communities and checkmate terrorists.

The governor said the communities aligned under the emirate, abiding by Islamic faith, and refused to alter their doctrine, leading to the attack.

Tinubu condemned the “cowardly and beastly attack”, describing the gunmen as “heartless” for targeting soft targets.
