Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has disclosed that he is currently without a club after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract with South African outfit Chippa United.

Speaking on SABC Metro FM, the 28-year-old said the decision was reached amicably and in the best interest of both parties.
“To be honest, I don’t have a club or a contract in front of me right now,” Nwabali said. “It was a mutual agreement where both sides felt at peace. We wished each other well, and I can now look ahead to the next phase of my career.
“I’ve spent four years at the club and it’s been a good experience, but sometimes players and managers need to move forward. Football is about happiness, and my happiness comes first.”

Nwabali recently lost his place as Chippa United’s first-choice goalkeeper to Dumisani Msibi following his return from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Msibi has since recorded four clean sheets in four league matches.
However, the Nigeria international insisted that competition for places was not the reason behind his departure, despite having six months left on his deal.
“No, that wasn’t the issue,” he explained. “Before AFCON, I was injured from the game against Pirates and was trying to recover properly so I could return strong for the team and also be fit for the tournament.
“When I came back from AFCON, there was an understanding between the chairman and me. I had just returned from a big tournament and had been playing for a month, so it was agreed I might need to rest for one or two games.
“I’ve always had a very good relationship with the chairman. We speak almost every day, like father and son. When we eventually discussed this decision, it was difficult, but he felt it might be the best option for me. In the end, it was a decision I made myself.”
Meanwhile, reports indicate that Nwabali could be set for a move to Moroccan top-flight club Raja Club Athletic as he considers the next step in his career.
