A 62-year-old Lagos-based businessman, Nwabueze Izueke, was arrested at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) for attempting to smuggle 95 jumbo-sized wraps of cocaine, weighing 1.589 kilograms, to China.
Izueke, who operates a clothing and auto spare parts business in Lagos, claimed he resorted to drug trafficking to fund the completion of his house in Enugu State.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) apprehended Izueke on Saturday, January 31, 2026, during the outward clearance of passengers traveling to China via Addis Ababa on Ethiopian Airlines flight ET940.
A body scan confirmed he had ingested illicit drugs, and he expelled the cocaine wraps in seven excretions while under medical observation.
The NDLEA has recorded several major interceptions and arrests across the country, including the recovery of 627.7 kilograms of skunk in Abuja, interception of methamphetamine in MP3 speakers, and arrest of suspects with large quantities of tramadol and other illicit substances in various states.
