The Senate has appointed a 12-member committee to work with the House of Representatives on the proposed Electoral Amendment Act, sparking public debate in recent weeks.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the committee members on Tuesday during an emergency plenary session, with notable appointees including Senators Orji Uzor Kalu and Tahir Mungono.
The committee’s mandate is to harmonize lawmakers’ views on the bill and submit a consolidated report to the chamber by next Tuesday.
The proposed amendments aim to strengthen electoral integrity, enhance transparency, and boost public confidence in the country’s democratic process.
Key proposals under consideration include electronic transmission of election results, stricter penalties for electoral offenses, and expanded voter identification options.
