A United Kingdom-based media delegation from Channel 4 News has commended the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), for what it described as significant progress in the fight against terrorism in Nigeria’s North East.

The delegation, led by Senior Producer and Team Leader Freddie Gower, visited Maiduguri, Borno State, as part of efforts to document and present the successes of the Nigerian Armed Forces to the international community.

In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters North East Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Gower said the visit was aimed at providing a global audience with first-hand insights into Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations. He noted that Channel 4 News, headquartered in London, covers major global issues including terrorism, asymmetric warfare, and human interest stories.

Gower explained that engaging directly with military commanders and local communities would enable the team to better understand the operational realities on the ground. He expressed appreciation to the Theatre Commander for the warm reception extended to the delegation, describing the visit as insightful and rewarding.

He commended the detailed operational briefings provided by OPHK, stating that they offered a comprehensive understanding of the Command’s achievements, ongoing challenges, and progress in stabilisation efforts across the region.

In his remarks, the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, reaffirmed the mandate of Operation HADIN KAI to restore normalcy in the North East and create conditions that allow socio-economic activities to flourish.

Major General Abubakar described the visit as a reflection of growing international interest in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts and assured the delegation of the Command’s full cooperation. He reiterated OPHK’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and responsible engagement with the media.

The Theatre Commander further disclosed that the operation has prioritised the protection of vulnerable communities through robust non-kinetic strategies. According to him, these efforts have facilitated the return of thousands of internally displaced persons to their ancestral homes.

He added that improved security has enabled farm patrols aimed at boosting food security and ensured continued protection for humanitarian organisations delivering medical services, nutrition support, vaccinations, and immunisation programmes across affected communities.
