NIGERIA: Kano State Orders Closure of Entertainment Centres For Ramadan

The Kano State Censorship Board has directed the immediate closure of all entertainment centres across the state for the duration of Ramadan.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, the order applies to event centres, commonly known as gala houses, as well as Disc Jockey operators.

According to the statement, the directive takes effect from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and will remain in force until the end of the holy month.

The board explained that the decision was taken to enable residents observe the Ramadan fast and carry out religious activities in a peaceful and undisturbed atmosphere.

It added that the specific date for reopening, particularly ahead of the Eid celebrations, would be communicated at the appropriate time.

The agency urged stakeholders to comply fully with the directive in line with the law establishing the board, noting that the measure forms part of its mandate to regulate entertainment activities in the state.

The board also prayed for a peaceful and healthy Ramadan, expressing hope that residents would witness the holy month in mercy and prosperity.
