Voter turnout was notably low on Saturday morning at several polling units in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) during the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections.

City Centre Registration Area polling units 006, 007, and 008 revealed sparse attendance as electoral officials began voting procedures.

At Polling Unit 006, voting started at around 8:30 a.m., but by 9:50 a.m., only seven voters had cast their ballots, prompting concern from the presiding officer. “We are still waiting for people to come out and vote,” the officer said.

Similarly, at Polling Unit 008, a handful of voters were being attended to while officials awaited more residents. Despite the low turnout, electoral materials and machines were functioning properly. “Everything is going on fine. There are no issues with the machines for now. We are waiting for more voters,” another presiding officer confirmed.

Security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Nigeria Correctional Service were visibly stationed around the polling units to ensure order and safeguard electoral materials.

The early low turnout comes amid nationwide calls for peaceful participation and orderly conduct in the elections.
