This follows a public holiday declared by Wike on Friday to facilitate voter participation, with movement restrictions in place from 8 pm on Friday to 6 pm on Saturday.

About 1.5 million voters are expected to participate in the election across the six area councils: Abaji, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that 1,587,025 voters have collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) out of 1,680,315 registered voters.

Voting is underway in 2,822 polling units, with 570 candidates contesting 68 constituencies, six chairmanship and 62 councillorship seats.

Security personnel are on the ground to maintain order, and INEC has put in place measures to ensure a smooth voting process.
