President Bola Tinubu has appointed Assistant Inspector-General Tunji Disu as the new Inspector-General of Police, replacing Kayode Egbetokun.
The announcement was confirmed by a presidency source, with an official statement expected soon.
Disu, a seasoned police officer with over three decades of experience, previously served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.
He also led the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos and headed the Intelligence Response Team.
The change in leadership comes amid security challenges and public scrutiny of the police force. Disu’s appointment is subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.
