The Kano State House of Assembly has initiated impeachment proceedings against Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo over allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust.

The impeachment notice, presented by Majority Leader Lawan Hussaini Dala, cites Gwarzo’s alleged involvement in diverting funds meant for local government councils, totaling ₦1.6 billion.

Specific allegations include receiving monthly kickbacks of N1.5 million from each of the 44 local government areas between June 2023 and January 2024, and facilitating payments of ₦10 million each to NovoMed Pharmaceuticals Limited, violating procurement and fiscal laws.

The notice has been endorsed by 38 lawmakers, meeting the constitutional requirement. Gwarzo has been given two weeks to respond to the allegations.
