US Congressman Riley M. Moore has expressed concern over the killing of Christians in Nigeria, urging the government to strengthen efforts to protect Christian communities.
ISWAP militants have been accused of carrying out attacks on Christian populations, with a recent attack in northeast Nigeria resulting in 27 deaths and 10 houses burned.
Moore stated that Christians are five times more likely to be killed than any other religious group, and that Fulani militias and terrorist groups constantly target pastors, priests, schools, and churches.
President Bola Tinubu’s administration has been urged to take stronger action to address the situation, with Moore proposing that any bilateral agreement between the US and Nigeria include commitments to co-fund humanitarian assistance programs, implement early-warning mechanisms, and deploy armed security forces.
