Governor Fubara had earlier, on March 5, 2026, forwarded the list of nominees to the lawmakers for screening and confirmation after dissolving the State Executive Council.

Following the submission, the Assembly invited the nominees to submit their credentials and other required documents ahead of the screening process.

The exercise marks the first time commissioner nominees are being screened by the Assembly since the end of the emergency rule in the state in September 2025.

The emergency rule had been imposed after a political crisis between Governor Fubara and the state lawmakers. Bola Tinubu had suspended the governor, his deputy and members of the Assembly during the crisis.

However, on September 17, the president announced the end of the emergency rule, saying stakeholders in the state had shown renewed commitment to restoring democratic governance.

The crisis followed a political rift between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, over control of the political structure in the oil-rich state.

More details are expected as the screening continues.
