The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed a federal high court judgment restraining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from conducting its national convention due to the exclusion of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido from the chairmanship race.

The three-member panel unanimously ruled that PDP defied a valid court order, and the party’s argument that it acted on another court’s judgment was invalid. The court emphasized that parties must obey court orders and seek stays or appeals instead of choosing which to follow.

The PDP was fined N2 million and must allow Lamido to participate in the convention. The court held that Lamido was “unjustly denied” the opportunity to contest, violating PDP’s constitution and regulations.
