The United States has issued a security alert warning its citizens in Nigeria of a potential terrorist threat targeting American facilities and U.S.-affiliated schools.

In a notice from the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, Americans were advised to exercise caution and take extra safety measures. The embassy said it received information suggesting a possible threat against U.S. institutions and facilities in the country.

“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja informs U.S. citizens of a possible terrorist threat against U.S. facilities and U.S.-affiliated schools in Nigeria,” the alert stated.

Americans were urged to stay vigilant when visiting the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, and U.S.-linked schools. The notice also recommended varying travel routes and times to reduce risk.

The embassy did not provide specifics about the nature of the threat or the possible perpetrators but emphasized the need for heightened caution.

Security advisories like this are routinely issued by foreign missions to inform their nationals of potential risks, particularly in regions where terrorism, kidnapping, and violent crime remain a concern.
