Former Super Eagles midfielder Henry Nwosu has passed away at the age of 62, leaving the Nigerian football community in shock.
Nwosu, a key member of Nigeria’s 1980 Africa Cup of Nations-winning team, died in the early hours of Saturday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja, Lagos, after a prolonged illness.
Nwosu’s football career spanned over a decade, during which he made 60 appearances for the national team and scored eight goals.
He played for clubs like New Nigeria Bank FC, ACB Lagos FC, ASEC Mimosas, and Racing FC Bafoussam.
After retiring, he transitioned into coaching, serving as an assistant coach with the Nigerian national team and handling the U-17 side from 2008 to 2009.
Former Green Eagles captain Segun Odegbami announced Nwosu’s passing, describing him as “Youngest Millionaire”. Nwosu had been battling health issues, including a stroke in 2022.
His death follows the recent passing of former Super Eagles coach Adegboye Onigbinde.
