President Bola Tinubu is set to depart for the United Kingdom on Tuesday for a state visit, marking the first by a Nigerian leader in 37 years.
The visit, hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla, aims to strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and the UK, focusing on immigration, trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
During the visit, Tinubu will hold bilateral meetings with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and meet with organizations engaged in interfaith dialogue.
He will also witness the signing of a £746 million financing deal to support the refurbishment of Nigeria’s major ports, Lagos Port Complex and Tin Can Island Port Complex.
The state visit will include a ceremonial welcome, a state luncheon, and a cultural exchange program showcasing Nigerian heritage.
Tinubu’s entourage includes senior government officials, such as Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Minister of Finance Wale Edun.
