Former Kenyan Foreign Minister Raphael Tuju has resurfaced a day after his reported disappearance, citing fears of abduction. Tuju revealed he went into hiding after being followed by an unmarked vehicle, abandoning his car to evade potential capture.
His family had reported him missing, and police found his vehicle abandoned with hazard lights on in Nairobi’s Karen suburb.
Tuju linked his experience to past abductions and killings in Kenya, expressing gratitude to Kenyans and opposition politicians for their support.
He’s been embroiled in a long-running legal battle over an unsettled bank loan, with lenders seeking to recover over $15m tied to his properties.
Opposition figures, including Kalonzo Musyoka, welcomed Tuju’s reappearance, alleging an “abduction squad” is operating in the country.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had launched a probe into Tuju’s disappearance, urging cooperation from the public .
