A shocking discovery has been made in western Kenya, where 33 bodies, including 25 children, have been exhumed from a mass grave in Kericho.
The bodies, some of which appear to have come from nearby hospitals and mortuaries, were stacked in gunny bags, according to Government Pathologist Richard Njoroge.
The exhumation was done after police obtained a court order to retrieve 14 bodies initially believed to be buried at the site.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities trying to identify the victims and determine the cause of death.
Two suspects, a public health officer and a cemetery caretaker, have been arrested in connection with the matter.
Human rights groups are calling for a thorough and transparent investigation, with some demanding accountability for the apparent irregularities in the burial process.
