The remains of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, have arrived in Abuja ahead of her burial.
Hajiya El-Rufai died on Friday, March 27, in Cairo, Egypt, following a brief illness. Her remains were flown into Nigeria on Sunday morning for funeral arrangements.
Her son, Mohammed El-Rufai, confirmed the development in a post on social media, stating that the Janazah prayer would hold by 1 p.m. at the National Mosque in Abuja, followed by burial at Gudu Cemetery.
He expressed gratitude and prayers for the deceased, asking for Allah’s mercy upon her soul.

Hajiya Umma El-Rufai had reportedly been residing with her son in Cairo before her passing.
Her death comes at a time when Nasir El-Rufai is facing legal proceedings involving allegations of financial misconduct. He was recently arraigned before a Federal High Court in Kaduna on multiple charges, with proceedings adjourned to March 31, 2026.

He has, however, been granted release from custody to enable him participate in burial rites and be with his family.
Prominent Nigerians, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, have extended condolences to the family over the loss.
