The newly formed Halal Cooperative Union in the Federal Capital Territory has inaugurated its first executive council following a public lecture aimed at fostering leadership rooted in Islamic principles.
Engr. Waahid Kolawole, Chairman of the Crescent Multipurpose Cooperative Society, was unanimously elected as the union’s pioneer President.
He leads a diverse team of executives tasked with overseeing the affairs of Islamic cooperative societies across Abuja.
Joining him on the executive committee are Alh. Shafiu Badmos as Vice President 1, Mal. Mukhtar Muhammad Adamu as Vice President 2, and Engr. Alfa Sani Usman as General Secretary.
The council is rounded out by Mal. Ibrahim Lawal Runka (Assistant General Secretary), Mal. Murtala O. Yusuf (Financial Secretary), Hajiya Hajara Usman (Assistant Financial Secretary/Treasurer), and Hajiya Juwairiya Ayitogo (Public Relations Officer).
The inauguration followed a keynote address by Alhaji Tajudeen Mohammed Adigun, Chairman of the Council of Ulamaa of the FCT.
Speaking on “Leadership, Ethics, Competence, and Community Trust in Islamic Stewardship,” Alhaji Adigun urged the new leadership to prioritise honesty, transparency, and financial discipline.
He emphasised that a successful leader must be knowledgeable, just, and courageous, particularly when managing the collective finances of the community.
In his acceptance speech, Engr. Kolawole pledged to harmonise the diverse backgrounds of the union’s members, drawn from both the public and private sectors, to create a unified roadmap for improving the welfare and financial standards of the society.
