Gunmen attacked off-campus hostels of Ekiti State University (EKSU) students in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Monday night, forcing many to flee for safety.
The attackers, who were armed, robbed students of valuables, including mobile phones, laptops, and cash.
A student, @yapperaholicc, described the attack as recurring, saying it has been happening for three days.
The Ekiti State Police Command confirmed the incident and arrested a suspect. “A suspect has been arrested and is currently undergoing investigation.
Necessary measures have been put in place to prevent a recurrence,” said Police Public Relations Officer, Abutu Sunday.
The attack has raised concerns over insecurity around tertiary institutions in Nigeria, particularly in off-campus hostels.
Students are calling on the state government and security agencies to intensify patrols and provide adequate protection.
