Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has ordered the closure of Our Lady Apostle Secondary School in Ijebu-Ode following a gas leak that affected 48 students.

The incident, suspected to be caused by nearby carbide cylinders, occurred on Wednesday, prompting the hospitalization of 30 students and sparking community panic.

Ola Oresanya, Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, confirmed that 18 more students felt the impact of the gas leak after returning home.

The state government has deployed safety officers and medical teams to assess and contain the situation. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the leak.

The affected students and two teachers received medical attention, with most stabilized and discharged.

A situation room has been opened at the General Hospital in Ijebu-Ode to provide free treatment for affected individuals.
