A member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) has been killed by a suspected repentant Boko Haram insurgent following a dispute in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The incident reportedly occurred around 10:16 a.m. on Friday in Mafa town after an argument broke out between the two men. According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication covering the Lake Chad region, the suspect identified as Abba Gana, 20, allegedly opened fire on the victim, Adamu Ali, 25, using an AK-47 rifle.
Security sources said Ali was shot in the chest and rushed to a nearby hospital. However, he was confirmed dead on arrival by medical personnel.
Following the shooting, the suspect was apprehended by Abba Sadu, the CJTF commander in Mafa LGA, and subsequently handed over to the police authorities.
Security operatives later visited the scene of the incident and recovered the firearm allegedly used in the attack as evidence.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police in Maiduguri has since commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
