At least eight people have been killed following a late-night attack by gunmen in Mbwelle village, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attackers reportedly stormed the community around 11 p.m. on Thursday, opening fire on residents in a shooting spree that lasted nearly an hour. The victims were said to be members of the same family, while at least three others were injured and several persons remain missing.
Those confirmed dead include Elder Iliya Mangut Dakus, Luck Titus Dakus, Habila Istifanu Dakus, Hassan Istifanus Dakus, Hassan Moses Dakus, Biggie Lucky Dakus, Sunday Gideon Dakus, and Innocent Barnabas Makwin.
Chairman of Bokkos LGA, Samuel Amalau, expressed shock over the incident, describing it as a senseless and unprovoked attack on innocent residents.

In a statement, Amalau condemned the killings and extended condolences to the affected families, noting that the incident posed a serious threat to peace and coexistence in the area.
He commended security agencies for their efforts but urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to help prevent further attacks. He also appealed to youths to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate tensions.
The chairman assured that the government is working with security agencies to track down the perpetrators and restore peace in the community.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with further details expected.
Local sources said the attack has heightened tension in the area, with some residents expressing frustration over the delayed response of security operatives during the incident.
