Heavy traffic disrupted movement along a section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Friday morning, with gridlock stretching from Longbridge through Magboro and extending towards Ibafo.

The congestion, which began around 7:30 a.m., was reportedly caused by a fuel tanker that obstructed the road near the Magboro bridge, severely affecting traffic heading out of Lagos.

Motorists reported near standstill conditions around Aseese, with slow movement persisting even after the obstruction was said to have been cleared. Some drivers were also blamed for worsening the situation by driving against traffic, disrupting the flow on the inbound lane.

Emergency responders, including officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Traffic Radio Command, and other response teams, were deployed to the scene to manage traffic and remove the tanker.

Authorities advised motorists to remain patient as efforts continued to restore normal traffic flow.

As of the time of filing this report, outbound traffic towards Mowe and Ibadan remained heavily affected, while movement inbound Lagos was relatively smoother.
