Police in Tanzania are investigating the death of American social media influencer Ashly Robinson, who died on April 9 while on vacation in Zanzibar, authorities said.
Robinson, 31, also known online as Ashlee Jenae, was in Zanzibar with her fiancé, Joseph Isaac McCann, 45, also a U.S. citizen.
The couple arrived on April 4 and checked into a hotel before moving to a second hotel, police said in a statement late Tuesday.
Hotel staff told police the pair “appeared to be having domestic conflicts,” and management separated them into different rooms.
Police said Robinson died in hospital around 9 p.m. local time on April 9 while receiving treatment following an alleged suicide attempt. Authorities did not provide further details on the circumstances.
McCann’s passport has been confiscated, police said. He has not been charged. Reuters was not immediately able to contact his lawyer for comment.
“Investigations into the matter are ongoing, pending professional medical reports and forensic examination from doctors,” the police statement said.
