Former Super Eagles striker Michael Eneramo has died at the age of 40 after reportedly collapsing during a football match in Kaduna State.

According to reports, Eneramo slumped on the pitch at Angwan Yelwa in the Television area of Kaduna while playing in an amateur game on Friday.

He was said to have come on as a second-half substitute before suddenly collapsing without any contact. Witnesses said efforts to revive him were unsuccessful before he was taken to hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

A source quoted in local media said he “slumped and died on the spot,” adding that medical efforts to save him did not succeed.

Eneramo, who had retired from professional football, played for clubs including Besiktas in Turkey, Esperance of Tunisia, and Nigeria’s Lobi Stars. He had also been involved in running a football academy before his death.
The official Nigeria national football team social media handle paid tribute to him, posting a photo with the message: “Rest in peace Michael.”
