Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf will swear in Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor on Tuesday.
According to a statement posted on Facebook by Ibrahim Adam, Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, the ceremony is scheduled for 11:00am at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.
The swearing-in follows the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who stepped down on March 27, 2026 after falling out with Governor Yusuf and refusing to defect with him from the NNPP to the APC.
Gwarzo’s resignation came amid corruption allegations and an impeachment notice by the Kano State House of Assembly, though he maintained that stepping aside was not an admission of wrongdoing.
Garo, a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under ex-Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, was confirmed by the state House of Assembly last week. He was also the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections.
Governor Yusuf said the choice of Garo as his deputy was a strategic move to strengthen political alliances and consolidate support across the state.
