Power minister-designate Joseph Tegbe has denied making any promise to fix Nigeria’s national grid within three months of assuming office.

The clarification came Thursday through his spokesperson, Adeola Adelabu, after reports circulated claiming Tegbe made the pledge during his Senate screening on May 6. Adelabu called the reports inaccurate and misleading.

According to the statement, Tegbe told senators that timelines for power sector reforms were still being developed and would depend on technical assessments and consultations with stakeholders.

He said initial steps to stabilise the grid would begin within his first 100 days, but deeper structural reforms around gas supply, metering, sector credibility and operational efficiency could take up to a year to produce meaningful results.

“Nigerians will see visible improvement in the sector,” Tegbe said during the screening. He also pledged to modernise infrastructure, strengthen commercial frameworks, enforce accountability across the value chain, and ensure vulnerable households are protected under any tariff reforms.

Adelabu added that Tegbe remains open to engaging with the media and urged journalists to seek clarification to avoid spreading misinformation.
