With just two matches remaining in the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, the title race has intensified, with Enugu Rangers and Rivers United locked in a tight battle at the top of the table.
Rangers currently lead the standings with 62 points from 36 matches, while Rivers United sit just one point behind on 61 points, setting up a tense and potentially dramatic finish to the campaign.

The Enugu side strengthened their position with a crucial 2-0 away victory over Bayelsa United on matchday 36, a result that reinforced their push for a record-equalling ninth league title.
Rivers United, champions in 2022, have kept the pressure on after a dominant 3-0 win over Abia Warriors, with coach Finidi George insisting the title race is still open. He stressed the importance of focus ahead of their remaining fixtures, including a key clash against Wikki Tourists.

“If we prepare properly, everything is still possible,” Finidi said, adding that the title could be decided on the final day depending on results.
The final round of fixtures could prove decisive, with Rangers travelling to face Ikorodu City in Lagos, while Rivers United host Katsina United.

Rangers coach Fidelis Ikechukwu has also urged his players to maintain their focus as they chase a second title under his leadership and a ninth league crown overall, which would draw them level with Enyimba.

Beyond the top two, the race is still mathematically open for other sides. Ikorodu City FC sit third on 58 points, while Shooting Stars SC are fourth with 57 points, though both sides face an uphill task.
For Ikorodu City and Shooting Stars, their hopes depend on winning their remaining matches and hoping for slips from the top two.
With such narrow margins separating the leading clubs, the NPFL title race is set for a tense finish, with every point now carrying championship implications.
