Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has banned night grazing and night mining in communities hit by recent deadly attacks, as part of new security measures for the state.

Mutfwang announced the restrictions on Tuesday during a visit to Nding community in Barkin Ladi LGA, where several residents were killed. The move follows Sunday’s attack in Barkin Ladi that left seven people dead, including a police inspector, during a mining-related dispute.

At a security stakeholders’ meeting in Barkin Ladi, the governor said all mining activities must stop by 5pm daily and underage children would no longer be allowed to herd livestock. He urged parents and animal owners to take full responsibility for their livestock.

Mutfwang vowed that anyone found complicit in the attacks, including security officers, would face investigation and sanctions. He also promised justice for victims and said security agencies had been directed to intensify operations to track down those behind the violence.

The governor assured farmers of improved security ahead of the farming season and pledged support through subsidised fertiliser distribution. He called on the media to avoid divisive reporting, insisting that Plateau remains the “Home of Peace and Tourism”.
