The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season will be decided on the final day of matchday 38, with defending champions Remo Stars and record title winners Enyimba unexpectedly drawn into a dramatic relegation battle.
What was expected to be a routine campaign for top clubs has turned into a tense survival fight, with several teams still at risk of dropping to the second tier ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Bayelsa United and Wikki Tourists have already been relegated on 40 points, while two additional relegation spots remain undecided heading into the final fixtures.

Enyimba, Kun Khalifat, Remo Stars and Warri Wolves are all level on 46 points, sitting between 14th and 17th positions, with Niger Tornadoes also in the relegation zone in 18th place. Mid-table sides including Kano Pillars, Kwara United, Plateau United and El-Kanemi Warriors are also not fully safe, with only a narrow points gap separating several clubs.
The final-day fixtures are expected to produce high tension across multiple venues, with permutations still leaving several survival outcomes mathematically possible.
Football analysts and observers have described the closing stage as one of the most dramatic in recent NPFL history.
Journalist Toyin Ibitoye predicted a decisive final day, particularly pointing to the clash between Enyimba and El-Kanemi Warriors as a key survival fixture.
He described the match as a “win or bust” encounter that could determine which side remains in the top flight.

“El-Kanemi will go down with Bayelsa United,” said Ibadan-based sports lawyer Jubril Mohammed, who also predicted survival for some other sides.
Canada-based analyst Dr Nosa Iyagbaye also highlighted the unpredictability of the final-day outcomes, describing the situation as a “war” across league venues.
Across various projections, several clubs including Remo Stars, Enyimba, Kun Khalifat, Kwara United, El-Kanemi Warriors, Barau FC, Plateau United and Kano Pillars remain at risk, with at least two expected to be relegated.
As the season reaches its climax, attention now turns to whether the league’s biggest names can escape an unexpected drop or whether the NPFL will conclude with one of its most dramatic relegation outcomes in recent memory.
