One of the victims of the Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle attack is pushing back against reports swirling online.
Rachael Alamu, principal of the school, said today marks 24 days since she and others were abducted from Ogbomoso. In a message attributed to her, Alamu clarified claims made by some press outlets.
“Please, I have come to make some clarification. Today makes it 24 days that we have been in this place. Some press media outlets are complicating the issue by stating that the people who abducted us requested N1 billion ransom and demanded Sharia law across the country. These claims are not true,” Alamu said.
Her statement directly counters reports that alleged a N1 billion ransom and a nationwide Sharia law demand as conditions for release. According to Alamu, those details are false and are “complicating the issue” for families and authorities.
The Community High School abduction has drawn national attention since it occurred. Security agencies have not yet issued an official update on negotiations or the status of the victims.
Families of the abducted have repeatedly called for accurate reporting to avoid raising false hopes or escalating tensions.
