Gunmen struck a private dredging site in Magbon Etido, Mowe, Ogun State on Monday morning, killing one soldier on duty and injuring another.
According to The Nation, the attackers tried to kidnap an expatriate at the site but he escaped. They then moved to nearby Karanla community where several residents were allegedly abducted before soldiers intervened.
Ogun Police PRO, Oluseyi Babaseyi, called it an “isolated criminal attack” rather than a bandit operation. He said police and military teams have launched joint operations to track those responsible. One soldier died at the scene while the injured officer is getting treatment.
Authorities say security has been reinforced in the area and residents have no cause for alarm as investigations continue.
