SGF George Akume says Tinubu’s economic and social reforms are working, and Nigerians will “revalidate our mandate” in the 2027 election.

Speaking Tuesday in Abuja at a Democracy Day press briefing, Akume admitted hardship and insecurity remain painful. But he pointed to growth of 4.07% in Q4 2025 and 3.89% in Q1 2026 as signs the Renewed Hope Agenda is turning things around. Inflation is still high but trending down, he said.

On welfare, Akume reported over 3 million vulnerable households got cash transfers, while CreditCorp issued N37 billion in loans with half of borrowers getting formal credit for the first time. NELFUND has supported 1.058 million students with N184 billion for tuition and upkeep, boosted by N50 billion in recovered assets.

He also flagged Nigeria’s exit from the FATF grey list in Oct 2025 and stronger military investment to fight terrorism and banditry. Akume called Democracy Day a reminder of accountability and urged unity, saying the government’s task is to “finish what we started in 2023 and scale what is working.”
