Kaduna-based singer and influencer Mycah Dangata is in custody after security operatives picked him up Tuesday, supporters say.

Dangata, real name Zamani Musa, leads the “Take Over Kaduna” movement. The campaign calls for a governor from Southern Kaduna in 2027 and backs ex-senator Danjuma Laah. Through music and social media posts, Dangata has criticized the ruling APC and Governor Uba Sani, arguing the region faces political marginalization and unfair appointments.

Authorities haven’t released an official reason for the arrest. Sources close to the case say it’s tied to his political activism. His supporters claim officials may be trying to frame him with a stolen phone allegation to keep him detained. No charges have been filed yet.

The arrest sparked backlash online and in Kaduna. Fans describe it as an attack on free speech and political participation ahead of the 2027 elections. They insist Dangata’s songs only pushed for equity and inclusion in governance.

Southern Kaduna communities have long complained about underrepresentation and insecurity. Dangata’s movement gained traction there by amplifying those demands.
