The Super Eagles may not be featuring at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but Nigerian fans will still have strong representation to follow at football’s biggest stage through a group of players with Nigerian heritage spread across several national teams.

At least 16 players of Nigerian descent are expected to compete at the tournament, representing nine different countries, including football powerhouses England and France.

Among the most prominent names are Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze, both key figures for England, while Michael Olise is set to feature for France. Though they will not wear Nigeria’s green and white, each player carries familial ties to Africa’s most populous nation.

The group reflects the global influence of Nigerian diaspora talent, with players continuing to make an impact at the highest level of international football while representing different countries of birth or development.

Despite their different national allegiances, they remain linked by shared heritage, giving Nigerian supporters additional interest in the tournament even in the absence of the Super Eagles.

As the World Cup kicks off, attention will turn not only to the traditional contenders but also to how these Nigerian-heritage stars perform on the global stage.

Fans are now left to decide which of these familiar names they will be backing as the tournament begins.
